I'm interested in any comparison of the JD 790 and Boomer 1530 models. I have 17 acres, mostly flat pasture, but limited tractor experience. I liked the basic size and setup of the 790, but when I testdrove the NH 1530 I found the Hydro plus the better turning radius easier to handle for novice drivers like me (plus the controls were pretty much idiot-proof). I'm concerned about the lower HP on the 1530 though: 30 for the JD (25 PTO) vs 25 on the 1530 (20.3 PTO). Will the lower HP run a 5' rotary cutter through tall grass? I am also interested in best prices for either with a 60" loader, 6' blade, and 5' rotary cutter.Thanks for any info.

Have you looked at the JD 4100, 4200, or 4300? They will offer the Hydro. I think the 4200 is the closest to the 1530. In michigan I found the JD's to cost less. ....

Craig's right. A JD 4200 is a much closer comparison to the 1530. I looked at the 1530 w/ supersteer also. It'll turn really tight, if that's what you want it to do. I was a little concerned about the possibility of extra maintainance and a lot more moving parts. But it all boils down to what you're going to use the tractor for. I settled on the 4200 Hydro because of the ease of taking off the loader when I wanted to use my finish mower and didn't want the additional weight. Also, my local JD dealer gave me the feeling he would take a lot better care of me in the long run. The JD price was almost identical to the Boomer price in my area. Last weakend, I took a 4' rotary cutter through 1 inch sapplings like butter. Bottom line, compare apples to apples, but don't forget comparing dealer to dealer! ....

I had a price of 25,400 for a 4400w/loader,hoe.A 4500 is a lot more tractor.better hyd.,tranny,larger,hoe is about7-8k,so yeah,maybe little more room to play with.pretty close ....

I currently have a price on a JD 790 with loader, industrial tires, mid pto, 4wd, manual transmission for $13,720.This is versus $14,600 for the same set-up in a 4200. I also have a quote of $14,000 for a demo (used at rodeo) 4200 for $14,000, same set-up, which I am about to jump on.Be aware of some differences between the two. Loader max lift = 755 for 790 and 1195 for 4200; 4200 has independent pto, 3 point lift of 790@24 inches is 815 and 1700 for 4200, pto hp = 25 for 790 and 21.5 for 4200. All these numbers are for geared transmission.The 790 has more horsepower but it looks like the 4200 will do more. Hope this helps. ....
